Network accepting applications for its Associates Program
The Network Associates Program is an 11-month educational and service experience with two purposes in mind—continuing education in political ministry (faith-based advocacy) through the legislative process and assistance in the ongoing mission and work of the organization.

Network Associates:

* experience a faith-based approach to lobbying on the federal level
* learn how and when to affect legislation
* phone, write, visit Congressional Members and their staff
* attend briefings, press conferences, hearings
* learn key justice issues in depth
* learn the basics of organizing for legislative advocacy
* communicate with NETWORK members, educating them on issues and suggesting advocacy strategies
* work in coalition with faith-based, labor, civil rights and other non-profit at a national level

The program is open to anyone interested in political advocacy for justice. Former participants have been recent college graduates, people exploring new career options and retirees. The program has three positions: one focuses on field organizing and two on lobbying. Associates receive a $742/month stipend (for a total of $8,163) and health benefits.

Network analzyes current U.S. social issues through the filter of Catholic social teaching to analyze our issues, but its staff represents different faith traditions. It welcomes applicants from all faith backgrounds who "have a commitment to [its] issue agenda, to dismantling oppressive systems (such as racism, sexism and classism), and who desire to work in a faith-based environment." Network strives "for an ethnically and racially diverse workplace" and welcomes applications from people of color, college-aged people, people making a career change, and retirees.

The 2003-2004 program begins in September 2003. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2003. Please contact Amy Scanlon, ascanlon@networklobby.org, Associate Program Coordinator at 202-547-5556, Ext. 18.
