Yum Brands expands CIW-Taco Bell agreements

from the Fair Food Movement, Yum! Brands has extended the Taco Bell agreement
to cover all five of its brands. This brings the number of national fast-food chains working with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers
to improve the wages and working conditions in Florida's fields to six, including Taco Bell
and McDonald's
.
Increasingly, say CIW organizers, industry holdouts like Burger King and Chipotle are running out of excuses to not work with the CIW to bring about improvements in their own tomato supply chains.
One of the things that's going to bring about those changes is a broad student and youth movement working with farmworkers to demand them. The Student/Farmworker Alliance has announced its third annual Encuentro to take place in Immokalee, FL - birthplace of the CIW - this Labor Day weekend (August 30 - September 3, 2007).

This year's Encuentro will provide an invaluable opportunity for the student and youth movement in solidarity with the CIW to coordinate its activities for the upcoming year as we take the growing campaign against Burger King to exciting new terrain.
