This bus don't carry no politicians
In this crucial election year, "people of faith are called to engage in the political process through the eyes of our religious faith and our deepest held values," say the organizers of a unique national bus tour. Though it will resemble the Republican and Democratic roadshows that will crisscross the national map this election season, this bus tour endorses no presidential candiate. Call to Renewal's Isiah Platform Bus Tour does endorse a new idea of communuity in America.

Based on a portion of Isaiah 65, the " Isaiah Platform" is a three point policy commitment that "links religious values with economic justice and moral behavior with political commitment." It reflects the conviction that overcoming poverty must become a bi-partisan commitment and a non-partisan cause.

The tour will promote the platform as a means of bringing into the public debate the message that overcoming poverty and injustice is a religious and moral issue in this election. The tour will also provide an opportunity for local organizations to partner with Call to Renewal in lifting up local concerns. The six-state, ten-city bus tour will include city-wide rallies, meetings, worship services, press events and clergy breakfasts. Prominent preachers, musicians and speakers are sure to be involved.

One of the most central biblical imperatives compels us to lift up those living in poverty, a commitment that unites us across theological and political divisions. The future of our country depends upon strong and stable families that can successfully raise their children. Isaiah calls people of faith to join God in the creation of a new earth; an earth founded on dignity for all of God's people.

Call to Renewal calls Christians to bring about this new earth by engaging in the electoral process. Through educating ourselves and voting we can ensure that candidates for public office prioritize building a just society where every American has what they need to fulfill their God given potential.

The Isaiah Platform bus tour will travel through the heartland of America October 6 - 17th with events in the following cities: Minneapolis/St. Paul, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
