Pax Christi USA seeks 'Teacher of Peace' nominations
Each year, Pax Christi USA honors an outstanding peacemaker with the Teacher of Peace Award, in the tradition of Thea Bowman, Cesar Chávez, Dorothy Day and Pope Paul VI. This award recognizes women and men whose lives and work exemplify the theme of Pope Paul VI’s World Day of Peace message, “To reach peace, teach peace.”

All nominations must be sent by email, faxed or postmarked by April 6, 2007 in order to be considered.

Eligibility criteria for nominations for the Teacher of Peace Award:

A living person

A Catholic individual or group

A United States citizen

Nationally recognized for their contributions to Catholic peace activities

A person who demonstrates an intentional and sustained effort to challenge and transform racist attitudes, notions and actions which continue to separate and oppress God’s people

Officers of Pax Christi USA should be considered ineligible until at least three years have elapsed since leaving office

Past recipients of this award who are still living and not eligible include:

Roy Bourgeois, MM; Jim and Kathy McGinnis; Colman McCarthy; Sr. Joan Chittister, OSB; Archbishop Raymond Hunthausen; Mary Evelyn Jegen, SND; Liz McAlister; William Quigley; Msgr. Ray East; and Sr. Dianna Ortiz, OSU.
