Fast in Solidarity with Darfur
To show their commitment to ending the ongoing genocide, STAND and the Save Darfur Coalition are inviting activists, organizations, congregations, and prominent individuals to participate in a fast with the people of Darfur on October 5, 2006.
This special event coincides with the holy month of Ramadan. Groups, in conjunction with Darfurians living in the United States, will be hosting iftars – special meals at sunset to break the fast – around the country and the world.
STAND, a national student movement for Darfur, is also asking fasters to donate money saved during the fast to civilian protection efforts through the Genocide Intervention Network. Last year, STAND groups raised over $100,000 for humanitarian organizations helping the people of Darfur.
