Drop the debt, cut the strings!
A postcard to Congress demands real third world debt relief

From Jubilee USA

Cut the debtOrder Your Postcards:
It is critical as we continue to build our campaign for debt cancellation that we focus more than ever on the policy strings attached to debt relief and new lending. A recent article, “Swindling the Sick” from Witness for Peace educator Ben Beachy in Nicaragua details the devastating impact of IMF policies in Nicaragua. The economic “strings” attached to debt relief and new loans and IMF agreements are strangling Nicaragua and many other nations in Latin America, Asia, and Africa.

But there is hope, and we know that our activism and organizing is making a difference. That is why we have launched our 2006 “Drop the Debt – Cut the Strings” postcard campaign. We are asking you to send a postcard to Congress and the Bush administration, demanding a Jubilee cancellation of debts without harmful economic policy strings attached.

Please order postcards for your faith community, friends, and co-workers to sign today. Check out the card and messages we are sending and order yours by emailing coord@jubileeusa.org.

We will send you a factsheet that gives background and more info on the campaign to use when tabling, along with your postcards. This factsheet will be available for download on this page next week.
