Virtual help for a hunger problem that's all too real
Wondering how you can help feed some of the estimated 9 million hungry children in your community? Your contribution may only be a few clicks away. Americas Virtual Pantry is an online fundraising campaign presented by Capital One in partnership with Americas Second Harvest.
Visitors are invited to submit their zip codes and then are transferred to an online shopping list they can use to buy food items on behalf of a food pantry in their community. You can select just a few items or fill an entire shopping cart. The food will end up in the hands of America's hungry. It's easy, even fun, and you don't have to push a shopping cart around.
The online donation is just one program offered by Second Harvest in its battle against the growing dilemma of hunger in the world's richest nation. In 2001, the USDA reported that the number of Americans who were food insecure, hungry, or at risk of hunger was 33.6 million.
