How you can join the G-8 summit
The G-8 meeting brings leaders of the world's eight most developed countries, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Britain and the United States, together to address issues of global concerns. The first summit, held in France in 1975, focused on economic problems. More recent meetings have addressed issues such as poverty, terrorism, drugs and global health (HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis).

Canada will be hosting the G-8 Summit June 26-27, 2002, in Kananaskis, Alberta. One of the priorities of the upcoming Summit is to address poverty and health issues facing Africa. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is using the occasion of the G-8 meeting to influence the US government to adopt a favorable position that will:

1. reduce poverty in Africa through development aid

2. develop a large-scale effort to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis in Africa

3. reduce international debt

What you can do!
Please join CRS in urging President Bush to use the opportunity of the G-8 meeting to be generous in the US government's response to Africa. With your help, we can amplify our voices for the people of Africa. As a sign of your solidarity with thousands of people nationwide and in support of the people of Africa, CRS asks you to complete a postcard and email it to the President today.
